Do you have any collections? Are they deliberate or did they just happen? Karen Kingston notes, "The art of understanding collections is to find out why you are doing it, learn from it, and then move on. Don't limit yourself. Make space for something new to come into your life. Don't be a Hector the Collector allyour life without every realizing why." Now I don't believe that Karen is saying that we should never have or keep a collection. I feel that she is saying that sometimes we continue to collect things without even being aware of it, and then the collection takes up a huge amount of space (and gathers a great deal of dust). Let's say you collected elephant figurines as a child. People have continued to give you elephants for Christmas and birthday. By now you have amassed quite a collection. But the current reality is that elephants no longer "speak to you" or hold your interest the way they once did. So maybe it is time to choose the five most precious elephants and pass on the rest. This will give you space to either collect something else or to make way for a new interest in your life. There is no need to collect because it is what you have always done. Now might be the time to make a change in your collecting habits.
