Just a Little Bit

Overwhelmed by the web? Emails, social media, online information and purchasing sites all contribute to electronic overwhelm (e-overwhelm). I am sure that it is fair to say that unless we each put a boundary on how much time we spend on the web, we will only become more overwhelmed as opportunities on the web will only increase, not decrease.

Why do I bring this up? Because as a business person, I know that it is possible to spend hours each day working on marketing through the web: updating this website, blogging, making more connects on LinkedIn or Plaxo, tweeting, adding information to Facebook, and this is the short list:-) FYI - I have been blogging for 2+ years and participating in LinkedIn and Plaxo for awhile, but I just started tweeting and haven't learned Facebook yet. So I want to know what venues are going to be best for me to get the word out about the business. This means that I need to keep track of some stats.

So if you tweet or use other microblogs (I think that is the term!), you may want to know about bit.ly. It is a free way to "shorten, share, and track your links". Not only will your link take up fewer characters, but you can see how many people click through. You may discover that certain tweets have a higher click though rate than others and thus adjust your content. Now, I am not going to give you all of the details because I am just learning it myself. But if you want more information about bit.ly as well as related applications, please visit The Buzz Builder and she can fill you in on the latest and greatest in the world of social media.
