The Nub on the Keychain
I looked at my keychain the other day and there was this "nub" among the keys and other items. Clearly something had been attached to it. I quickly checked to make sure that all of the keys were still attached. Check! Store discount cards. Check! I couldn't think of anything that should be on the keychain that wasn't there. This thought lead me to consider the idea that because I couldn't identify the missing item, maybe it wasn't that important. Maybe I didn't need it! In fact, I didn't even know how long it had been missing! Clearly I hadn't used it in quite awhile.
What is your "nub"? What unidentified partial item is taking up space that could be used for a whole, useful item?
Now some of you are thinking: but someday you might find the item that goes on the nub. This is true. But since it hasn't been missed, I believe that it isn't very important and that it is most likely replaceable. I have decided that it is okay to part with this nub.
Challenge for you: identify five nubs in your life and delete them from your space. You can donate, sell, or toss them. You might find that it is very freeing to delete some of these nubs. Nubs can be quite overwhelming because they represent the unfinished and the unknown. If you want to live in a NOW (Newly Organized Way), take some time several times a week to delete the nubs in your space.
